Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and anchor and. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a diploma from the department of English Literature. In 1967 Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. She joined the CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. She became a Washington general correspondent for NBC News two years later. From 1981 onwards, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she was promoted to chief of the congressional reporters. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House reporter in 1992 and the head foreign affairs correspondent for NBC News. Mitchell appeared as both a presenter and a panelist in the TV news program Meet the Press. She served as a panelist during the debates for president in 1988, between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell has a husband, Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government for outstanding achievement in journalism. In 2004, The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell first covered at the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of the administrations of Ronald Reagan. She reported on a variety of important stories like arm control, budget tax reform, and the Iran-contra saga. She traveled extensively along with President Reagan for summits with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world leaders.
